Dear Eco-$mart Newsletter Readers, Thank you for staying in touch with us, and a very happy holiday season to all. We appreciate all you leaders in the important movement towards sustainability. As you will read below, we have been busy getting the word out to the public in recent months, attending green events in Florida and beyond. We have added a number of new Eco-$mart offices and want to welcome our new representatives in Florida (Naples, Ft. Myers, Pt. St. Lucie) Kentucky, New Jersey, Georgia, South Carolina, Texas (and coming soon in Saudi Arabia and Dubai). We have also added a few new wonderful green products in areas of energy efficient lighting, HVAC and interiors. Please let us know your feedback as you read about them. I think many of you share my optimism for the future, since our presidential election. You have likely been catching the news about the planned public works programs focused on energy efficiency for government buildings. I expect that additional incentives and funding sources for upgrading private sector commercial buildings and homes will follow, as well. All these forces are creating robust environment for implementing many of the technologies and approaches that we have been identifying since starting Eco-$mart in 1993. It is too bad that a financial crisis had to precede the impending changes, but I guess that means we all in the sustainable movement are the silver lining on that cloud. Please let us know how we can help you in your home and in your business be a part of the green wave that is just building now. It is a team effort.
Sincerely,
|

VETERINARY CENTER OPENS NEW GREEN BUILDING DECEMBER 4, 2008
West Coast Veterinary Center, at 7910 S.R. 72 , Sarasota, FL held a ribbon cutting ceremony for their new clinic on December 4. The clinic, consisting of a 6000 SF office/hospital and a 4000 SF horse barn, was built with environmentally friendly and energy efficient features, enabling it to undergo the certification process by the Florida Green Building Coalition. Eco-$mart is proud to have supplied many of the green features including heat reflecting metal roof, foam sealed roof interior, passive solar water heaters and energy efficient windows. A pond oriented for rain-water run off is stocked with native fish and available for occasional irrigation of native, drought resistant plants used in the Florida friendly landscaping.
Inside, a specialized floor is installed for animal comfort, cleanability and disease control. Indoor air quality is controlled by an energy recovery ventilator integrated with efficient AC and fresh air ducting so kennel air does not mix with office air. Low Energy LED and compact fluorescent lighting through out the complex reduces energy consumption. "...building our facility this way was the right thing to do, for the planet, and for the human and animal occupants", said Dr. Beth Brown, owner and director of the Center, "...though it costs a bit more to build this way, we expect that the monthly energy savings will more than cover the increased financial cost of the building." LEDing the Way
Technological advances in LED lighting now make it possible to replace nearly any Incandescent, Fluorescent or High Density light source with Solid State LED Lighting. Eco-$mart is building a comprehensive collection of LED lights for new construction and retrofit that directly replace outdated, wasteful bulbs, lamps, and tubes of all kinds.
Why is LED the future of lighting?
From under-counter strip lights to Hi Power Roadway and Wall Pack Lamps, our selection of LED Retrofit Lamps make it possible to replace old, inefficient lighting with low maintenance, low wattage LED lights. LED lights pay for themselves over time and pay huge dividends to our environment by reducing energy consumption and eliminating many pollutants in manufacturing. Bulbs - from candelabra to household light bulbs to Hi Lumen CFL bulbs, there is an LED light to replace old, inefficient light bulbs. Tubes - T5, T8, and tube lights can easily be replaced, eliminating the need for higher rated wiring, ballasts, and transformers. LED tube retrofits produce little heat making them perfect for chilled storage and refrigerated display cases. Floods & Spots - retrofit to nearly any flood or spot light base. GU, JDR, MR and PAR replacements in a variety of configurations and wattages. More in the Eco-$mart Catalog
